Behind-a-router help
I'm trying out the simplechat example but it seems that I can only get it to work locally (127.0.0.1). I've tried SFSlite and SFSBasic, following the above instructions and I still couldn't get it working. Every time anyone tries to connect (including myself), they will be stuck on "Connecting...". Can anyone that got it to work help me a little? Thanks.
How To configure the NAT service
Hello,
idk how to configure the NAT service i cant find how
3- Now it's time to configure your router. Outside of your LAN nobody knows the addresses of your computers in the network as they use local addresses. In other words, from outside, the only available "entry point" is your router which is assigned an IP address.
You should configure the NAT service (Network Address Translator) of your router so that all requests on port 9339 (SFS default port) are redirected the computer running SmartFoxServer (in our example the IP is 192.168.0.16)

One other important thing to bear in mind:
Let's assume you have configured your SFS server to run on one of your 'dedicated' home machine behind a router on this following private/local IP address - say.. 192.168.2.10 and you have set up port forwarding to forward both socket (assumed to be 9339) and jetty port (assumed to be 8080) to that machine from your router.
And if you placed your application online and configured it to connect to the external/public IP address of your router (whatismyip.com) and have set up the ports accordingly. The external/public IP address is the IP address which can be seen from the 'outside' world. 218.101.12.50 is an example of a public/external IP address.
Then, if you try and run the (online) application from another computer (say.. 192.168.2.5) from within the same local network where the SFS server is currently located on, it won't work. This is because both port 9339 and 8080 were reserved for the 'dedicated' home computer, both incoming and outgoing. So basically other computers from within the same network won't be able to connect your SFS server via the external/public IP address.
So, to test if the online application work for other people outside your network, you will have to test it with a different network than your home network - providing that alternative network or its ISP isn't blocking port 9339 or 8080.
If you want to connect to your SFS server from a computer from within the same network, you would have to use its private/local port, which will be 192.168.2.10.
Lastly, make sure the firewall on your SFS server isn't blocking the required ports. One of the common mishap for your 'dedicated' home SFS server.
Savvy?

...I dont know how to do step 3 !!! How to configure the NAT service ?
Re: Behind-a-router help
Hi
Is the machine which is running SFS behind a router? If so, there must be a page on the router's administration page which refers to its NAT. On some routers when configuring the port forwarding it also lets you to specify the internal IP of the machine, which is the NAT configuration.

Re: Behind-a-router help
Hello,
I'd say that you can configure the Port Forwarding on the Local Server Mapping section.
What is the manufacturer of your router? I'm not being able to recognize the logo on Google..
Thanks

Re: Behind-a-router help
Hello,
Could you also provide the model of the router? Sorry I forgot to ask that.
In the mean time, try checking this page from portforward.com, which tells how to port forward on a specific model of BroadLanner:
