SmartFox behind a proxy - BlueBox not working

Postby christophe.feerik » 06 Jul 2010, 09:46

I've made a search in the forums, but found nothing matching.

The problem is on our server side.

Until today our server was set up on the ports 9339 (normal TCP connections) and 8080 (for the BlueBox). Everything is working well like this.

However, we decided to allow users to access the BlueBox via port 80, to pass through some firewalls and proxys on public networks.
Our hosting manager placed a proxy between the server and the world which redirects port 80 to port 8080.

You should see that both addresses displays correct installation of the BlueBox.

Despite of this, we cannot connect to the server via the BlueBox on port 80 (still working very well on port 8080).

Sorry for the delay, I am not sure if this was already dealt by some other colleague via email or not.

Anyways I don't know what to say here... Evidently the proxy you have added breaks the communication between the client and the BlueBox. Without other details it's very difficult to diagnose the problem.

Our hosting manager placed a proxy between the server and the world which redirects port 80 to port 8080.

Instead of this why not reconfiguring the SFS web server to run on port 80 and avoid the proxy at all? That's what 99.9% of our customers do and it works great.

If you are under Linux you will need root privileges to run the server on port 80

The problem was that we hosted our SmartFox Server on a shared hardware, so our host was not good with the fact that our JVM should have root privileges regarding the other clients.

But we have found a solution that seems to work correctly now. A delay that was too short...
