Openspace Maps - Cached by the server, does the cache expire

I noticed that smartfox caches the openspace maps but was woncdering does the cache expire after a certain time period or is a server restart required for map changes to take effect?

The cached map is updated as soon us the map is modified (either by a user or by overwriting the map file on the server).
