[NEW] SFS2X 2.17.0 is available!

Postby Lapo » 26 Jan 2021, 14:39

We have just released SmartFoxServer 2X 2.17.0, codenamed "Flash Farewell" as we have cut the remaining ties with the old Flash-based Admin Tool.

It also seems that a lot of people forgot about the termination of Adobe Flash on Jan. 12th 2021 and have found themselves unable to reach their servers with the legacy Admin Tool. This release is particularly targeted at these users, as it packs all the recent updates in one installer.

NOTE: keep in mind that this release is not an update and must be installed separately, not on top of an existing installation.

Download SFS2X 2.17.0 from here

» Migration to SFS2X 2.17.0

If you are running an older SFS2X, prior to version 2.14.0, lots of things have changed. In particular the embedded web server (Jetty) has been replaced with Tomcat.

In order to transition from your older installation to SFS2X 2.17.0 we recommend the following:
  • Install SFS2X 2.17.0 in a new folder (not on top of the previous installation)
  • Migrate the older settings (see relative guide link below)
  • Run SFS2X 2.17.0 and check everything is in order
  • Archive your older installation as a backup and remove it, if you need space

Also, we highly recommend to read the following articles:

HI, the migration didn't go smooth. I am migrating from 2.15 to 2.17 but the extensions are not starting. I have the zones active but the zone-extensions are not active.
Can you help me with that?

Hi
can you provide more details? What do the logs say. There should be errors when the Zones are loaded and Extensions are launched.

Let us know

It didn't throw any errors. After several restart the extensions are working now. But I was wandering is there a migration tool for this release?
Greetings!

Not a tool but there's a guide in the docs, here:

Can you please check if the browser console shows any error when you access the Ban Manager, or when you select a Zone in the dropdown?
The "Ban a user" button should activate after a Zone is selected in the dropdown. If it doesn't, there's probably a JavaScript error in the browser. Maybe we can better understand what is going on.
